BADM 325 - Herndon: Research & Resources

Strategize Your Research Plan

1. What type of information do you need?

  • When your information need changes, so should your research strategy.

2. Create a list of facts you already know and questions you need to answer.

3. Identify important terms - and be flexible!

  • Utilizing good keywords will make or break your research.
  • identify what words are important. List other words or terms that mean the same thing.
  • Experiment with combinations of your keywords.

Research Databases

Keyword Flexibility

Search by pairing keywords together rather than "asking the database a question"

  • Do this: Lighting AND Safety AND Parking Lot
NOT this: How can lighting make parking lots safer

  • Do this: COVID AND Temperature Checks
NOT this: How effective are COVID temperature checks?

  • Do this: Course design AND Online Learning
  • NOT this: How can course design improve online learning?

Use flexible and clarifying keywords.

  • Internship programs are also called professional readiness programs
  • Campus recreation facilities are also called student centers
  • Residence halls are also called dormitories
  • food services are also called dining services
