BIOL491/CHEM 491 & BIOL 391 - Biology Seminar: Home

Higher level research skills are introduced to allow students to correlate and summarize their major program course work. New areas and ideas are examined. This helps prepare the student for experiences in literature review and oral presentations.

Biology Seminar - Scholarly Communication

It's a big job being curious. This is a picture of a butterfly.

Hello! Welcome to the Biology Seminar libguide. This guide will show you research strategies, databases, and resources for your class.

The librarians at John R. Dover Library are here to help you succeed. Dover Librarians can assist you with books, eBooks, interlibrary loan, printing, databases, periodicals, and research and citation help.

As you research...........

Research as Inquiry (ACRL, 2015)

  • Formulation of appropriate research queries allows gathering, integration, and creation of information

Goal:  Create an appropriate search query using keywords, Boolean operators, and truncation

Scholarship as Conversation (ACRL, 2015)

  • Type of information matters within a discipline (Primary? Secondary? Scholarly? Popular?)
  • Scholars use information to influence their own work and that of others
  • One resource leads to another

Goal:  Locate a scholarly article.  If it is primary research, locate a subsequent article which builds on the original information.
